Media Watch: Boys will be (rockin') boys!

Happy 2020 to everyone!

With much gratitude to ZA pop/rock historical archivist Marq Vas for sharing a most wonderful piece of his collection a few days back on his YouTube channel: acetates from the 1975 SABC Radio 5 live broadcast of Rabbitt performing at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg for the Gap Rock Spectacular.  I recall seeing a photograph of this posted many years ago on the Facebook page devoted to his collection and so it's a wonderful surprise to finally hear it.  As Marq notes in the description, this performance was broadcast nationwide to promote the release of the band's first album Boys Will Be Boys!  I would posit that this performance occurred sometime in the latter half of the year, as Radio 5 debuted on-air in October of 1975.

This recording features two original songs ("Take It Easy" and "Hard Ride") and there's an interesting selection of covers - the "oldies" section is especially fun.  And it's also one of the few instances that those of us Rabinites outside of South Africa will ever get to hear Trevor's 21-year-old diction...

The recording is rather rough sonically-speaking but strictly from a historical perspective, it's priceless!
