A pleasant surprise!

Yesterday, Trevor announced that he would be releasing the demo version of "Fragile" - previously only available as a bonus track on the deluxe Rio release - to streaming services.

As stated in the social media post:

I’m particularly pleased with the space, in terms of production, and happy with the simplicity of the lyric. Life is harsh, fickle and Fragile. My intention regarding the guitar solo was for it to drip onto the “page” so to speak.

Given that he wrote this song to spec for Agent X's showrunner, I'm assuming that the lyrics at least somewhat reflect the narrative concerns of the series as a whole (or perhaps only the last episode).

Eager-eyed fans may have spotted Trevor's social media postings yesterday which announced a release party for the new album on its' release date, October 6th, held in conjunction with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.  The event will feature a conversation with Trevor and the Hall's VP of Education, Jason Hanley, with a signing to follow.

Next single!

Today brings the announcement of the next advance single from Rio, which is "Push" featuring Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, and will also have an accompanying video.  You can pre-save for streaming platforms and receive an exclusive preview of the song and video via this link:

But the teaser is also available to listen to here, it's giving Jacaranda vibes!  As there's been unique artwork for both singles I'm beginning to wonder if Trevor created a piece for each song and if that will be reflected in the album packaging.

It's official!!!

Today the official announcement has been made by InsideOutMusic regarding the release of Rio.

Per the press release:

InsideOutMusic are pleased to announce the signing of Trevor Rabin, the South African guitarist, singer, multi-musician, writer and producer. They will release Rio, his first solo album of vocal material in 34 years on October 6th, 2023 worldwide.

Of the signing and the forthcoming album, Trevor comments: “Signing to InsideOutMusic was the most natural and happy signing. Thomas and I have been friends for a while, and we’ve wanted to work together for a while. As I got close to completing the project, I called Thomas. It was that simple. I am extremely happy to be working with the InsideOutMusic team and being part of the Sony family.”

InsideOutMusic label-head Thomas Waber adds: "Working with Trevor is a big bucket list moment for me and the label. I became a fan of his signature writing style at the beginning of the 80s and have been following him ever since. He is one of the true greats in Rock Music. Rio is everything we could have hoped for and more!"
Rio, named after Rabin’s grand-daughter, features a painting by Trevor himself and will be available to pre-order from August 4th on several different formats. More information will be available soon.

Trevor’s social media presence has been newly relaunched, and you can find all the key places to find out more information below. You can also see a video of Trevor checking in here: https://youtu.be/VRx4eyxT8Hs

(And we get a great new promo photo too!)

As is noted in the press release, Trevor's social media presence has been updated for the new promotional cycle.

The first single from the album "Big Mistakes" is now available for digital distribution pre-save via Trevor's Instagram stories and on Facebook.

update: Rio

According to a few sources, Trevor announced the release date of his new solo album Rio on social media sometime within the last 12 hours or so.  It appears the album will be released on October 6th through InsideOut Music.  But then the announcement seemingly vanished, perhaps revealed too soon?  But a two-month lead time is pretty standard I would say.  Here's hoping there's more news (or even the original news re-posted) appearing very soon!

The news we've been waiting for!

(With thanks as always to Henry Potts.)

Yesterday it appears we all received a surprise holiday gift...in the Trevor Rabin Fans fanpage on Facebook (created and administered by TR superfan Judy Davis), Trevor logged in to answer a query about the new album project, stating:

It is done, the cover is done, record company is done.It will will be announced soon.
🥂🥂🥂
I hope it will be enjoyed as much as I had creating it.!

It is titled Rio, for obvious (loving) reasons.  Trevor also shared the cover image (which he created, apparently), but as I don't belong to any Facebook groups I have not seen it.  So hopefully we will learn more official details during the first quarter of 2023.

(ETA: here is an image of the cover from Henry's site: http://www.bondegezou.co.uk/Rio%20cover.jpg).  If it is one of Trevor's paintings it seems in keeping with his particular style.

With something wonderful to look forward to...I wish all my readers worldwide an enjoyable holiday celebration and a Happy New Year.

a loving tribute

Alan's former bandmates have provided tributes at the official Yesworld site, and Trevor is among them...

I’m infinitely sad.
I always loved Alan.
Over decades of being close,
we never had an argument.
A beautiful human.
Hard to think of a world without him.

All the best,
Trevor.

This was one of the highlights of the performances on the Around the World in 80 Days tour: Trevor and Alan having a little duet of their own during "Yours Is No Disgrace."

imposter syndrome

I've previously blogged regarding people pretending to be Trevor on social media and it looks like there's another one now on Instagram - the account @tcryes.  I imagine this has already been discussed in some of the Facebook groups but as I'm not a member of any of those I only found out about it this week.

There's not much content - just a story linked and one post - but both of those things raise various red flags to me as well as any long-time die-hard fan who is familiar with Trevor's online presence and posting habits up to this point - a subject I have also covered/opined upon over the years.

In support of this impression I thought I would list my reasons as to why I am asserting this account is fake; and I certainly welcome any views/feedback/insight via email as to why someone might think I'm wrong or lacking particular information.  But I really do think it's fairly obvious.

The name: I honestly do not believe Trevor would name an Instagram account in that fashion, as I would imagine he'd be able to obtain a verified account as a public figure/celebrity in the same way he did for Facebook and Twitter.

Frequency of social media engagement: Most of us are fully aware that Trevor has not posted on Facebook (his primary venue for the aforementioned activity) in over two years now.  So why would he now create an Instagram account and start a podcast?  As someone who spoke with him over the past year, I can verify Trevor is focused on finishing his new solo album and even if he were to start another project or hobby, I honestly can't believe it would involve podcasting.  It's true that a lot of people are getting into podcasting - both as an acknowledgment of its' popularity as well as the way in which the online world has been impacted by the pandemic - but given Trevor's existing relationship to social media overall I would say he would be one of the least likely people to do this.

Bio: That bio is just...weird.  The whole thing.  I could break down every detail but I would hope it wouldn't be necessary for the people who read this blog.  But especially linking 90125 on Spotify because although Trevor has promoted his own work he's never been a shill for it.  If he was going to link anything in his bio it would likely be the Sharespace website he announced back in 2018.

Additionally, I will say that the choice of the user icon is the only likely thing which might be considered legit.

The story: as noted there is an story linked - we've seen details of Trevor and Shelley's house over the years via various sources and I really don't think that's it.  But I will say I believe that they do celebrate secular Christmas so it's not the presence of a Christmas tree which is the tell, so to speak.

The post: This is really the bait, of course, though to what end exactly I couldn't say. But I have not been able to find actual evidence of this alleged podcast anywhere, even beyond the outlets listed in the post.  There is a podcast with that name, but created by someone else.

I address these comments to "Trevor" in reaction to parts of the text:

-1- Behind the scenes producing our album "Close to the edge"

Uh...do you mean the 1972 Yes album Close To The Edge which you were not involved with at all?

-2- Episode 1 is joined with a good friend and film writer John Grey, John and I worked closely on one of my first film appearances in The Glimmer Man.

That guy you've got pictured there, that's director John Gray.  I mean, if it was someone you valued you'd want to get their name correct, right?  But also, the real Trevor wouldn't necessarily want to devote an entire podcast episode to that movie - and I know this because I've discussed it with him on two separate occasions and I know what he thinks of it.

In summation...it was fairly easy to debunk this for anyone, not just me, and I imagine there's other fans who've done just that in the two weeks since this account appeared.  I just feel bad for anyone who might have thought this was genuine.  As we know, if Trevor desires to give any update on social media he's going to post to his Facebook page (which will automatically crosspost to his Twitter account) and although I think many of us would love it if he decided to create his own podcast, I really don't see it happening.  And that's okay too, even if his current non-presence means that certain bad actors with parasocial fixations/lack of boundaries are attempting to fill the void.

new website

As presaged by his Tweet from earlier this month, Trevor has a new website up now and it seems primarily a vehicle for his re-entry into the scoring world.

Ask the Maestro

Spotted on Twitter: it's nice to see Trevor engaging a bit more with social media, as I believe this is the first time I've seen him respond to someone directly on this platform.

(a real) update from the Maestro

Trevor posted to Facebook last night regarding his work on the upcoming CD/DVD release as well as an injury which occurred before the run of shows in June.  It's great to read that he's recovered now!

wonderful memories

As I noted yesterday, Trevor updated his Facebook regarding the upcoming Summer touring, but he also changed the photo on his page header to one which long-time fans have seen a few times over the years, and I also included it in my entry from January of last year regarding Beginnings.

One of Trevor's original Rabbitt-era fans posted a great comment in this entry and I really appreciate Josie de Villiers sharing with us the story of how she came to gift Trevor with that particular shirt as well as where the photo originally appeared (I would assume it was taken to accompany an article in that publication).  Many thanks, Josie!
Ok my word! I was a HUGE fan of Trevor’s when he had his band Rabbitt in the 70’s and I actually bought him that jersey as a gift. AMERICA 77 ON PARADE! I took it to his house in Parktown all gift wrapped expecting to drop it off and when his mom opened the front door - he was sitting right there on the phone. I nearly passed out from excitement!🙈That picture appeared in The Star Newspaper as well and yes it was of him, his dad Godfrey and his brother Derick. Seeing this photo is such a blast from the past and brings back great memories of those days!

Not that these things are related, but...

...I'd just like to thank Trevor for posting on my birthday.  :)

All teasing aside, we're all looking forward to it as well, Trev. *thumbs up*

a call to action

Trevor's latest Facebook update touches upon a subject near and dear to his heart as a dog lover and pet parent.  Rick and Trevor are asking for support on a petition sponsored by the organization Dog Meat Free Indonesia, those who would like to participate can visit their site:

Don't forget to remember!

GROUPLOVE is a busy band this summer - touring in support of Big Mess and Little Mess, as well as playing various festivals - and yesterday they released a new single, so their #1 fan was quick to alert the masses.

Featuring a fierce vocal by Hannah Hooper and a really interesting percussion-driven dynamic arrangement, this song definitely places the band much more on the indie pop side of their particular aesthetic.

And now...a message from Dad

As several readers have already pointed out to me today, the timing on this is amusing, though entirely coincidental.

Proud Papa sez: "That's crazy with a triple Zed!"  A summertime banger, this track does have a fun Tropicalia vibe to it.
