A new collaboration...?

Spotted on Twitter: it appears Trevor has guested on a new project from former Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen and musician/producer Torsten Stenzel (one half of the EDM duo York) called Outlanders, due to release their debut album in a little over a month.  It looks to be a classical/EDM/rock crossover.

According to the duo's socials this release has quite the cast of musicians.  Besides Trevor, also featured are guitarist greats Al DiMeola, Vernon Reid, Joe Satriani, Bumblefoot, Walter Giardino, Steve Rothery, Marty Friedman, and Jennifer Batten, as well as New Age/progressive rock legend Mike Oldfield.

The release is slated for the last full week of November, so look out for it around the 24th or 25th.

Media Watch: how to be a Million-Air

The 2021 BMI London Awards ceremony was held (virtually) yesterday and Trevor was once again among those awarded the Million-Air award, for "Owner of a Lonely Heart" which has now surpassed six million US radio plays.  That particular category within the Million-Air award slate for songs in the BMI repertoire also featured five other songs from Elton John, Seal, Cutting Crew, Roxette, and Ed Sheeran.

The Secret Discography: more jazz-funk goodness

One of a series which examines Trevor’s musical career in South Africa.

Spotted on Instagram: yet another side project from 1976, possibly featuring the same line-up as on the You And Me release (also from '76).  I'm assuming the name comes from the Los Angeles-based '70s era soccer team (football to the rest of the world, that is).  If you page through the entire photo set you'll hear excerpts from one of the songs on side one as well as "Rumble in the Jungle" which was written by Trevor.

welcome to the New Girl

Some might have been aware of Kyly posting on her Instagram page back in May that she and Ryan were expecting, and yesterday became the proud parents of beautiful Rio (and I'm sure she'll be dancing on the sand by her toddler years).  Congrats to Kyly & Ryan, Trevor & Shelley, and Jayne & Myles.  We know she'll be raised with love and music and all good things.

Fashion Watch: What's black and yellow and rad all over?

Many of us are dedicated followers of the history of Trevor's sartorial choices and one thing we know for sure is if he's worn something once, he's probably going to wear it again.  But even I was surprised of late, courtesy of Alfred Ligammari II sharing his concert photographs of Yes via his Instagram page.  He's posted several shots of the April 26th 80 Dates show in Buffalo, NY and because there are not a lot of photos from the tour entire in circulation it was a bit of a shock to see Trevor's 9012Live shirt revived for this particular performance.  Below are the links for all of the photos from that gig he has posted thus far.

As one of Trevor's most iconic pieces of clothing we know it's had a life even beyond its' appearance during the 9012Live tour (and in the 9012Live concert video) - as Ryan wore it at various times during his tenure with GROUPLOVE, such as this interview in 2013.  THAT JACKET THO - it almost seems as if it's meant to be worn with the shirt.

Let us hope the shirt is well-stored now so that the next Rabin generation can also wear it proud someday.

Media Watch: podcast roundup

Debuting today from the National Treasure Hunt podcast series is an episode devoted to Trevor's score for the first film.  Those who consider themselves devotees of the franchise in general would do well to make their way through all the episodes, as the hosts are well into their third season of appreciation for those films.

And this episode of Professor of Rock from last month is devoted to "Owner of a Lonely Heart" featuring interview segments with Jon Anderson and Phil Carson regarding YesWest and the writing/recording of the song.

"how they jive and jingle"

Spotted on Instagram: nice to see this previously unseen (at least to me) concert shot from the 9012Live tour, courtesy of the photographer, A.D. Ligammari II.  And from Trevor's choice of guitar we know that they photographed the bromantic shenanigans during "City of Love."
